Rainfall on the islands is plentiful and the lush forest and swamplands areas that are nourished by it provide an excellent habitat for thousands of species of amphibian, mammal, insect and bird. The Corn Islands are also a stop of point and way marker to numerous species of migratory birds as they make their journey to and from their summer and winter homes.
Although numbers across most populations are healthy and steady, guarding against complacency in looking after our next door neighbours is paramount in the islands vision of our future. The swamplands and jungle tracts are closely monitored to ensure they remain a rich and vibrant ecosystem
