Discover Corn Island
Countless species of butterfly...
...as well as land turtles or terrapins.
Iguanas rule treetops and rocky outcrops as the largest land based predator on the islands.
Land crabs are abundant but secretive denizens of the islands.

A Rainbow of Island Animals

The corn islands has a diverse range of land and flying animals, most are small with certain adaptations particular to living on the islands. Rainfall on the islands is plentiful and the lush forest and swamplands areas that are nourished by it provide an excellent habitat for thousands of species of amphibian, mammal, insect and bird. The Corn Islands are also a stop of point and way marker to numerous species of migratory birds as they make their journey to and from their summer and winter homes.

Although numbers across most populations are healthy and steady, guarding against complacency in looking after our next door neighbours is paramount in the islands vision of our future. The swamplands and jungle tracts are closely monitored to ensure they remain a rich and vibrant ecosystem
The cunning Tarantula Hawk will plant its egg in a living spider.
And on occasion, one might encounter the mighty boa on a jungle walkabout.
Lizards and Gheckos are plentiful here and a welcome housemate with their hunger for flying insects.
Bats are often seen on the islands but their nesting sites are unknown. There used to be talk of hidden caves amongst the folklore passed down from the islands pirating past, but none have been found...yet.
A number of species of frog, in particular, tree frog can be found on the island. Toads have also chosen the wetland marsh at the swamps' edges to build their island community.
If you're lucky, or maybe that should be "unlucky"...you'll see a tarantula in its natural jungle habitat on one of the islands' jungle hikes.
Coral Snakes. Poisonous, and thankfully secretive, these beautiful creatures are present on the islands, though numbers are unknown.
And the lightning bug. The trusty, innocent, soothing miniature lighthouse in the sky. A friendly and welcome participant in the night sky's dance until dawn.
